Dragotec Introduces Drago Gold Sunflower Head

Drago Gold promises to be the new “gold standard” for harvesting sunflowers.

After more than 70 years in its pursuit to design, engineer and build the most yield-saving and durable corn head in the industry, Olimac, maker of Drago corn heads, has introduced a sunflower head to achieve the same for sunflower producers.

The new sunflower head is named Drago Gold.

“Expanding into the sunflower market is a natural evolution for this great brand,” says Dustin Bollig, farmer and Dragotec vice president of sales and marketing. “The focus on yield capture and durability that has made Drago corn heads a North American leader has been applied in the design of the Drago Gold sunflower head.”

Bollig says Dragotec worked with Olimac to ensure Drago Gold will outperform expectations in the North American sunflower market. “Just as Drago corn heads are specifically built to harvest North American corn hybrids, Drago Gold is built for our unique sunflower hybrids too.”

A yield-capture machine

“Olimac applied its engineering expertise to create a sunflower yield-capture machine,” Bollig says. “Its unique design enables producers to maximize their combine power to run at higher working speeds and minimize or eliminate downtime.

“It will be the new gold standard in sunflower harvest.”

Drago Gold’s row units feature block gathering chains plus an advanced disk cutting system to capture, hold and cut stalks with minimal vibration. Its auger is the industry’s largest with an aggressive pitch allowing for increased crop flow to the feeder house.

Additional exclusive features

Bollig describes additional exclusive features that will help operators cover more ground at harvest, including:

  • Gathering-chain protection: Two radial slip clutches on chain drives of each row unit help prevent damage from overloads on gathering chains and cutting disks.
  • Precision engineering: Oil-bathed, heavy-duty gearboxes and precision-milled gears optimize power transfer throughout the head and reduce wear and maintenance.
  • Oil-bath transmission: A robust oil-bathed transmission requires no relubrication, decreasing wear and maintenance to protect it from impurities and foreign objects.
  • In-season chain tightener: Chain tension is automatically tightened throughout harvest for worry-free operation.

“Drago owners have realized the unique kernel capture and durability benefits of our corn heads for decades,” says Bollig. “We are proud to offer those same benefits to sunflower growers with Drago Gold.”

Bollig says the new Drago Gold sunflower head is available from certified Drago dealers. For more information and to find a local dealer, go to Dragotec.com/Gold.
